Look to the Lord
To a boat wherein were his faithful twelve
Jesus walked across the sea,
And as Peter saw him, he called out,
"Lord, bid me come unto thee."
Peter stepped out at Jesus' command
And much to his surprise
Beneath his feet was a surface firm,
And to Jesus he uplifted his eyes.
His steps were sure as he started out
For his eyes were on the Lord.
But the surrounding chaos of wind and wave
Soon captured his attention more.
Peter began to sink
As fear clasped his heart in it's grip.
But Jesus grabbed him by the hand
And led him safely back to the ship.
"Ye of little faith, why did you fear?" Jesus asked.
And humbly, Peter said,
"I took my eyes off you, Lord
And my heart was filled with dread.
I must keep my eyes on you, Lord,
For you are my ultimate goal.
You gave me faith to walk through the storm
And peace for my troubled soul."
Like Peter, many Christians of today
Begin with their eyes on the Lord,
But as time goes by and troubles rise,
They focus on the evil of this world.
Doubt entwines itself in their hearts
Making them think they can't win,
But the Lord will come, if they only ask,
And lead them safely to the end.
We must keep our eyes on you, Lord,
For you are our ultimate goal.
You give us faith to walk through the storms
And peace for our troubled souls.
