The Christmas Tree
When the Christmas season comes around
What fun it is each year
To decorate the Christmas tree
With the people we hold dear.
Atop the tree is placed a star
To shine down on us from above,
And under the tree are placed the gifts
Chosen especially for those we love.
People are drawn by the star,
Because of it's beauty and light,
To the tree under which their gifts are placed
Until the time is right.
The tree is actually a symbol
Of something from long ago:
Jesus' birth in Bethlehem,
As the prophets had foretold.
Jesus is the greatest gift
That man was ever given,
And lovingly God placed a star
Above him in the heavens.
The star led people to the gift,
Which God had carefully chosen
For the people that he loved,
Where it waited to be opened.
Having the tree up each year
Reminds me of the fact
That not everyone has opened the gift
Which God has so lovingly wrapped.
How many people would open their gift
If they could only see
The deeper meaning in the image
Of the Christmas tree.
