I Can't
I can’t teach this class, Lord,
I don’t know enough.
I can’t join the choir, Lord,
I can’t sing this stuff.
I can’t witness to this one, Lord,
I don’t know what to say.
I can’t read the Bible, Lord,
I don’t have time today.
I can’t help my neighbor, Lord,
Not in this day and age.
You never know just who to trust
And when to stay away.

I can’t go down there, Dad,
You know what they’ll do.
They’ll mock my name and slap my face
And jeer and taunt me too.
Life down there’s too hard, Dad.
No one will believe.
I’ll be left alone in my final hour
To die on Calvary.
Please don’t send me there, Dad,
I don’t want to die.
There’s too much sin, I’m just one man,
Why must I pay the price?
Why do you care about them, Dad?
They don’t seem to care about you.
They whine and complain at the least little pain,
And they never stay faithful to you.
Forget about them, Dear Father,
They’re much more trouble than they’re worth.
Let’s eradicate man, created a new plan.
It’s time to destroy the earth.

After all the I can’ts we use everyday
It amazes me that God didn’t say,
“I can’t see why man shouldn’t die.
He will never repent of his ways.”
But of all the I can’ts that I use
There is one that’s true enough:
I can’t understand God’s mercy toward man,
His grace, or His pardon, or love.
